I didn't quite mean just the 'happily ever after' part, I was referring to the familiar set-ups like when the girl dates her best friend's brother or her brother's best friend, the bet that causes the two characters to fall for each other, or finding out that the jerk who messes with her head isn't so bad after all, etc. Yes, there's a skeleton in everyone but every person is unique. I think creative plots and unexpected twists are what make a cliche work well.
