More Senseless Rambling

I went to get a price on what it would cost to get new lens for my glasses (I got a pair with the anti-glare that peeled off the lens and everything went blurry, so I had to go back to an older back up pair I keep). The price was pretty steep because of the high index I use. The salesgirl was nice while I tried to decide if I wanted new frames, but it was obvious that she didn't wear glasses because every pair she gave me to try on were too small for my face. I have contacts but I didn't really take to using them (my eyes get dry quickly and I have to re-wet them to the point of aggravation). My dad's friend got laser eye surgery and no longer needs glasses, so it has come up as an option... I don't know how I'd feel to never wear glasses again... I feel kind of naked without them but I've also been terrified that I'll go blind and have to get it anyway.
On that note about flying blind, I'll post the continuation of 'Name' as the Between the Lines story where Max and Alec go on a trip to find Max's mother. I really liked the story and I hope it writes itself the way I have everything in my head (if you're a writer, you know exactly what I mean by that). I don't plan for it to be very long, it will be shorter than Just Another 48 Hours.
I'm up to Chapter 6 of Wake Me Up and it's oddly going the way I need it to. There have been slight changes here and there, particularly the introduction of Nico, who was not in the original sketches in any way shape or form. He's been an interesting character to play with, and I already know what his deal is, so don't get too attached. I hope I'm doing a good job with the story overall. I should have enough chapters to start editing and posting again, I really like to be a few steps ahead of the story so I don't have to do any major retconning. (My brain writes the story one way, and my hands do another version... So hard to find good help these days!)
In other news, half of my department was laid off and they're going to spend the next two months training their replacements in India. It's really odd to see so many people lose their jobs to outsourcing, but the company was pretty much the stereotype of every evil corporation in America, and the only people who cried were the ones who got to keep their jobs! Me? I might be moving on to a greener pasture soon. *crosses fingers*
