Chapter 1: It's the End of the World as We Know It
Usually, the commentary is on just the chapter I posted for the week, and this chapter was posted last week. But I felt like doing it anyway.
The general response to this chapter is that there's not much of Alec in it. In the original version, there was even less. The birthday line was inspired by mine (I'd posted the chapter on a whim because the publication date would be my birthday, ::shrugs:: hey, it's the internet, I can be as narcissistic as I want to be) and a few other mentions Alec after he leaves weren't in there originally. Of course, it doesn't matter much because he's pretty busy in this story and probably gets more screen time than anyone else. In After Life, it was more Max oriented. This story is supposed to be more balanced between the characters.
In someone else's fic, they mentioned how TC would be like Lord of the Flies, because the Xs are actually all under 25 years old and I thought that was interesting. Then somehow or another I remembered The Island of Doctor Moreau that I tried to read in high school but never finished (note to self: do that) about the experiments crossing human and animal DNA. It's a shame that canonical literature has so fallen out of fashion in the Post-Modern era, especially Wells and Verne and Asimov. Yes, I'm a book geek and wanted to share.

Chapter 2: No Sleep Tonight
This week's installment was rather long-winded. Nothing much happens, but it's the middle of the night and not many people are awake after the long day they had. I always see night as being the hour of the day to think and reflect.
I didn't think Max nor Alec would easily jump into the leadership roles they'll assume (it's pretty much fanon at this point that Max and Alec run TC). I would imagine they would have a lot of doubts, considering they've both been faulty products and were both typically loners. I don't buy into the Alec was CO at Manticore, that's not his personality. Nor would Alec be the one to run TC over Max, even though some fics on occasion sway me that it is possible if written well and pointing out the 09er distrust.
Something that you won't see in here is the incessant praise of Alec. I can't stand fics that if you cut out all the sentences proclaiming how cute or hot he is, how someone (okay, a lot of someones or in some cases everyone) wants to sleep with him, how much smarter he is than Max, likens him to god or how he is somehow the tragic victim of her madness, you'd be left with next to nothing. I don't buy into that. Yes, he's hot, we're not blind, we know this and it's half the reason we were rooting for him to get the girl (or for some people screaming that they'd maim any bitch that went near him LOL, sorry I read the Supernatural boards and laugh my ass off). So don't expect that from me. I do not worship at the altar of Alec (though no offense to anyone who does, write and read what makes you happy, I'm just saying the way I do things).
The attraction between Max and Alec is meant to be understated yet obvious. Hope I pulled it off. I want to go slow with them. I didn't want to do a someone-gets-shot-and-now-we're-in-love bit. There have been some really great stories on that premise, but I didn't see it happening in my story. In fact, I have an unorthodox idea of how they'll get together that I'm trying to work out.
In the original, the HBO line was actually about a date Alec had planned, but then I remembered that he'd agreed to pretend to be Max's boyfriend and wouldn't be accepting any lady callers with Logan around and Asha watching. Though how no one figured it out when Alec didn't know escapes me, since Asha would have seen him at Crash with other girls or mentioned it to him in the month that it's going on. Whatever. I had just finished watching True Blood online when I thought of that. But now, I think we all know Alec would get his fix online. Strange the leaps we've made in such a short time.
I was surprised that people liked the 'anti-hero' line. Die-hard fans will remember that it comes from 'Love Among the Runes,' and is a bit of a trend in these fanfics. I had seen a lot of different reactions to that line before I came up with my own. It was meant to be a turning point in the role Alec plays to her.
