Chapter 5: Morning Aftermath
Ugh, I can't believe I used the word "aftermath" in a chapter title. I think it's a standard DA chapter title word. But it's the title I wanted so I was kind of stuck with it.
I had a lot of fun using Mole, who I saw so well-used in other stories that I wanted to try. He's going to be my Shakespearean fool.
Anyway, I wanted to know where the idea to actually raise the flag came from, and I figured Logan's really patriotic and likes this sort of visual effect and rebellion, so the idea belongs to him. I didn't actually like the actual idea for the show, it felt like it was trying too hard but I'm keeping with canon as best I can. Then again the canon has left a lot of wiggle room for me to work with, which is why I like working with this show.

Chapter 6: The Man With a Plan
This chapter took extra long to post. That is because it's the chapter that sets up how Max's siblings re-enter the picture, and I have been re-working how Zack comes to remember things. Also, I was going over how I needed Max and Alec to react. Since I wanted to make some changes that would impact the next installment, I had to go over it again and again to make sure it would fit what I wanted to happen. I've given myself enough space to work with now.
A lot of people are liking the Alec/Dalton interaction. I feel like Alec wouldn't be thrilled to have Dalton following him around, and be ambivalent about letting someone get close to him. I like that this is coming through so well because it's such a big part of what happens next.
Also, I got inspired to write Chapter 10 of After Life at the same time, and am now in Chapter 11 of that story instead of getting on with Chapter 3 of Wake Me Up When September Ends. Well, I must do as inspiration dictates.
